MIRO Awards $1,000 to 2017 Rosemary Curtis Neider Scholar Alli Richardson

Each year, MIRO Industries honors Nate Sargent’s beloved mother-in-law, Rosemary Curtis Neider, by awarding a scholarship in her name to a Murray High senior. In 2017, the award goes to 18-year old Alli Richardson.

Service, Alli says, is a very important part of her life. From a young age, she was able to involve herself in various volunteer work and has since fallen in love with the act of helping people who need it. Apart from learning a lot through serving others, Alli said she has also met amazing people along the way.

When asked about her thoughts on being this year’s recipient of the Rosemary Curtis Neider Scholarship, Alli expressed her joy that MIRO noticed her volunteer work rather than strictly grades. “It felt like such an honor to be chosen because of the things I’ve done. It was awesome to know that people appreciate more to a person than just their academic abilities.”

Alli is looking forward to starting her first year at Utah State University next year as a Music Therapy student.

The Rosemary Curtis Neider Scholarship

A mother of eight and a grandmother of 19, Rosemary Curtis Neider considered raising her family as the most rewarding thing she has ever done. She was a teacher and a firm believer of making a difference in the world through heartfelt and compassionate service. Her numerous projects through the years included gathering books for children in shelters, working with handicapped children, personally delivering quilts to refugees in Kosovo, and assisting the elderly in care centers.

This is the second time a scholarship was awarded in Rosemary’s name since her passing in January 2015. According to her son-in-law, Nate Sargent, this donation becomes more  meaningful for him each year, and “maybe more so than any other monies we donate,” he added. “I want everyone to remember mom for her dedication to family, neighbors, friends, wayward youth, and anyone in need – especially the Savior.”
